Outdoor fog systems have been effectively used in outdoor cooling applications for quite sometime. The EcoMist system, when properly designed and installed, can cool outdoor temperatures by as much as 25 degrees. By using a pressurized atomizing system, the system reduces water droplets to as small as 5 microns (5 millionths of a meter) in diameter. Therefore, “flash evaporation” occurs, which reduces the temperature where the misters are installed.

Flash evaporation (also known as Thermal Dynamics), means that water requires energy of about 600 calories of heat in order to evaporate one gram of water. This energy exchange results in reduced temperatures around the treated area. The overall effectiveness of the system will depend on existing temperature and humidity levels. Temperatures between 80 and 115 degrees and humidity levels between 40 and 90 percent produce the most effective results for an EcoMist system. As with any evaporative cooling process, the more moisture (water) evaporated, the greater the cooling results.
